Independent Evangelical Church of Elkhart

Description: In February 1893, the Independent Evangelical Church of Elkhart was organized. In 1894 they joined the Methodist Protestant Church and became the First Methodist Protestant Church. Services were conducted in German until 1910 when an alternating schedule of English and German services was arranged. In 1939, the congregation merged with the Methodist Episcopal Church to become Grace United Methodist Church. In 1994, Grace merged with three other Methodist churches to become Faith United Methodist Church. This building at 137 Division Street was sold to Grace Temple Pentecostal Church and now, as of 2021, houses Open Gate Praises and Deliverance Ministries.
