Description: |
Following his first term as President of the United States, Grover Cleveland ran unsuccessfully for a second term in 1888. Neither Cleveland nor his opponent Benjamin Harrison drew great enthusiasm from voters. Cleveland believed American consumers should not have to pay high tariffs or taxes on imported goods. In this close election, Harrison gave numerous speeches and ultimately won the election. Cleveland ran again in 1892 and defeated Harrison. |
