Description: |
“Flasher pins” like this one showed two images when the pin moved from one position to another. Created for the presidential election in 1960, this one features a picture of candidate John F. Kennedy and “the man for the 1960s” on the other side. After defeating Richard Nixon, he became the first Roman Catholic and youngest man ever to be elected president. During his shortened presidency, Kennedy worked to create the Peace Corps, enact civil rights legislation, and transport astronauts to the moon. He led the country through a tense stand off with the Soviet Union during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. He was assassinated November 22, 1963 in Dallas, Texas. |
