Description:	This is a digitized recording of a dictabelt, which the Indianapolis Fire Department used to record dispatch calls during the 1960s and 1970s. Following are the calls on this dictabelt: 1) 2442 Station, woman calls to report her basement is flooded and the water is mixed with gas, dispatcher recommends calling a plumber. 2) Fire reported at vacant residence at 2324 Hovey St. by caller at the call box at 23rd St. and Ralston Ave., Engines 2 and 22 sent to respond. 3) Discussion about shop man reporting to district 1, dispatcher looks for a shop car to get a replacement battery to engine 2. 4) Woman asks if its safe to return to her home in area near explosion, dispatcher gives her all clear. 5) Fire reported near Tibbs & Alden at 1802 North Tibbs, small house behind print shop on fire. Engine 9 and Engine 30, truck 30, district 1 sent to respond. 7) Follow up discussion on issue at 2442 Station, woman needs to call the owner of the residence to resolve water flooding basement. 8) Woman calls again to pump water out of basement. Dispatch recommends calling a plumber, notes they will probably be busy since many folks around the city had flooded basements. Fire department cannot use their pumps to pump residential floods. 9) Woman at Holiday Inn South has an employee living at 7700 West Washington, trying to find out employee could get home after she heard highway 40 was closed west of the city. Dispatcher and Holiday Inn representative discuss how the employee could safely get home from Holiday Inn South by taking the interstate. 10) Dispatcher follows up, calls another agency looking to find out where interstate 40 was blocked due to flooding. Learns that 40 was blocked and is open now. Recording ends at midnight. Dictabelt
