Description: This is a digitized recording of a dictabelt, which the Indianapolis Fire Department used to record dispatch calls during the 1960s and 1970s. Following are the calls on this dictabelt: Female caller correcting address previously given for a fire at Central State Hospital in section 4.; Male caller, identified as Oliver, at 345 N. Elder who wants to burn brush pile.; Female caller reporting a grass fire at 3047 College, Engine 22 dispatched.; Female caller wanting to know if a fire on Indiana Avenue had been reported yet, with concern regarding some type of disturbance happening in the area.; Some banter regarding the new code 800 cars to indicate news media vehicles.; Carl Wagoner? called from Fire Station 17 asking to be connected to the shop. Charlie was identified as the dispatcher.; Warren? Nickname Red? Called in to give the telephone number for where he would be at that evening.; Charlie Hill at the Fire Marshall’s office to ask about a fire and to report that he would be on his way.; Another report of the grass fire at 3047 College, calling from the phone booth on Minnesota St. Dispatch briefly questions the caller about the report since the call if coming from so far away.; Female caller asking to be connected with state police headquarters.; State Fire Marshall’s office stating that Chief Hill is requesting that the State Police’s photographers come take pictures at the call at Central State Hospital. Dispatcher indicated that Charlie Hill was on the scene at the hospital. Dispatch call to the State Police.; Male caller reporting his car on fire at 844 Virginia Ave.; Chapman of car 10 calling to request the shop man to come out quick to Central State Hospital because the keys to reserve 9 were locked in the truck. Banter about this being the second time Chapman had locked himself out of his car.; Caller reporting trouble with a hot water line in a bathroom on the second floor at 4177 N. Ruckle. Engine 28 dispatched at 8:02PM.; Big 10 Market Engine 5 and Engine 7 and truck 5 and District 1 dispatched to 800 Indiana at 8:04pm police are on the scene.; Call from the associated press asking what time the call came in about the Big Ten Market fire. Dispatch requested that the media use the number 636-3650. Asked whether or not any other fires had happened that evening. Questions about the State Hospital Fire.; Report of a lot of smoke coming out of a house at 2400 N. New Jersey.; Request for an ambulance for a boy with epilepsy.; Indistinct background chatter; Report of a fire at ?? Laundry at 420 E Market.; Undecipherable chatter, the last two minutes are dead air.;
