Indianapolis Motor Speedway During the 250 Mile Race, Aug. 19, 1909

Description: Thousands of spectators view the featured race of the day, the 250 mile Prest-O-Lite Trophy Race. The race began at 2 oclock and was won four hours, 38 minutes, and 57.4 seconds later by Bob Burman. His average speed was 53.77 miles per hour. See PAN0295 for the other half of this image.
The original nitrate negative was copied with funds provided by a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission in 1990. This digital image was created from that copy. The copy prints and negatives are stored in Microfiche Number order.
