Description: |
Group portrait of the First Indiana Artillery Regiment in front of a tent at Fort Harrison in August, 1917. Colonel Robert Tyndall (1877-1947) is pictured in the front row, sixth from right, and Daniel I. Glossbrenner (1896-1983) is also pictured in the front row, second from right. This photo was taken for the Levy Printing Company, as Captain Glossbrenner was the son of the owner of the company. The men pictured were the first division of the Indiana National Guard to be called abroad during World War I, and this was taken just before their departure to France. Colonel Tyndall was a veteran of the armed services, having served in the Spanish American War. A stake displaying his name can be seen at the far left, denoting that it is his tent in front of which the soldiers are posing. Tyndall would become Mayor of Indianapolis from 1943-1947. |
