Group portrait of soldiers of the 60th Regiment Engineers Casual Detachment No. 1 at Fort Benjamin Harrison in June, 1918. A note on the photograph states that there were 344 men in this detachment. Commander Lieutenant Marshal and Lieutenant Pollard are labeled. Fort Benjamin Harrison was established as a training center for the Indiana National Guard in June of 1904 in Lawrence Township, Marion County. During World War I, it became one of the largest Army training and mobilization sites in the country, hosting three large officer training camps which included a division that trained engineers. |
