No. 03 - Little Turtle

Description: The caption for this image, written in 1916 and provided by the Educator-Journal Company, follows: “3. Not only the greatest of Miamis, but probably the greatest Indian the world has ever known was Little Turtle. He was born on the present site of Ft. Wayne about 1751. He was small of stature and was both brave and wise. He was not a hereditary chief but his dignity of manner commanded such respect that he soon became a leader.”[Little Turtle was a chief of the Miami people and was known as a great military leader. In the 1790s he led many Native Americans to victory against U.S. troops in the Northwest Indian Wars.]
