No. 11 - A circuit rider

Description: The caption for this image, written in 1916 and provided by the Educator-Journal Company, follows:“11. The Circuit Rider. No group of pictures showing pioneer life would be complete without this dear friend, who came infrequently to hold services in the churches and to visit and minister to the spiritual welfare of the people.”[Circuit riders were itinerant preachers, primarily of the Methodist Episcopal Church, who traveled throughout the frontier to conduct worship services in what were largely sparsely populated areas.]
