Description: Frederick Porter Griffin (1915-2008) and his wife, Eleanor Ashton Griffin (1915-2000), work on the books of the Griffin dry goods store in Corydon, Indiana. Like many in his family, Fred clerked in the family store as a young man. After graduating from college he embarked on a teaching career while continuing to work part-time at the store. He retired from teaching in 1953 to devote his full time to the family firm and served as treasurer. He became president of Maurice Griffin & Co., Inc. in 1966. He married Eleanor Ashton in 1954, and she also helped in the operation of the family store for many years. Griffins dry goods store closed in 1983 and was the oldest retail business in Corydon.
