| Description: |
Road crew workers pause during the grading of Doolittle Hill Road, which winds down the knobs above Elizabeth, Indiana to Bridgeport. The road takes its name from John W. Doolittle, who was awarded the contract for the road work. His son George Carl Doolittle also worked on the project and later served as Harrison County Surveyor. Most of the workers were from the Elizabeth area. The men had no machinery, only hand tools, to carve the road in the rocky steep hillside. |
