Road Petition

Description: This is a petition dated June 22, 1811 by Knox County inhabitants for repairing the state road leading from the Falls of the Ohio to Vincennes. The petition notes the disagreeable situation of the road which is impassible for carriages and difficult for horsemen. The petition was signed by James C. Veal Sr., Daniel Connors, Christopher Coleman, William Hawkins, William Purcell, Daniel Veale, James Veale, Thomas Horrall, Josiah Wallis, Richard Steane (Steen), Richard Palmer, William Baker, Samuel Connors, Jesse Lucas, William Right, John Burch, Eli Hawkins, John Rodarmel, Joseph Culbertson, David Flora, Aaron Freeland, Jacob Freeland, Aaron Freeland Sr., Benjamin Freeland, George Lashley, George Lashley Jr., Dennis Bennett, Thomas Ruglas (Ruggless), John Aoret, Thomas Steen and James Steen. The verso states that this is a petition for appointing overseers of the road leading to the forks of White River.
