Description: |
This is a petition by a number of inhabitants of Busseron Township who believed that the ordered labor on a road from Samuel Johnsons to John Widners farms and then to Vincennes was unfair. They noted that because of an impassable marsh, the labor would benefit the inhabitants on the east side of the marsh more than those on the west side. The petitioners stated that there were sufficient numbers of people from the east side to provide their own labor and that those living on the west side already had to keep in repair the Old Road leading from Ledgerwoods mill to Vincennes. The petitioners asked the court to help all living on the west side of the marsh between John Irvings and John Haddans farms and from the upper end of the big prairie including Robert Gills and William Hills to Busseron and up to the Inman Boundary to not work on the first mentioned road and instead keep in repair the Old Road. The signing petitioners include George Ledgerwood, John Ingel, Thomas Holder, Ruben Sullenger, James McCutchen, William Ledgerwood, Samuel Ledgerwood, Robert ?, John Black, Frederick Barger, Elijah Tubbs, Francis Williams, John Haddan, Martin Boles, Edmond Boles, and John Greeley. |
