This file contains 1 summons and 1 recognizance bond in a case brought against Samuel Bradley by John Reed Jr., administrator of Benjamin Reed, for a broken covenant. The recognizance bond of $400 dated February 22, 1811, bound Samuel Bradley and Isaac Miner (Minor) to appear before the Court of Common Pleas on the third Monday in March, 1811. The summons called for Samuel Bradley to appear on that date and was witnessed and signed by court clerk Robert Buntin on February 22, 1811 and executed by deputy sheriff James Crow at a cost of $1.69. Attorney John Johnson signed the verso of the summons. According to the Minute Book of Common Pleas 1811-1817, page 15, both parties consented to choose John Small and Robert Buntin as arbitrators. William Jones was appointed by the court to be the third arbitrator and they were to make their award next November term. On page 18, August 9, 1811, the case was discontinued on motion of the plaintiffs attorney John Johnson. On page 22, August 10, 1811, a motion for a Dedimus to take the statements of witnesses in the Louisiana Territory was signed by Judge James Johnson. On pages 29 and 30, on December 23, 1811, the case was settled with John Reed Jr. releasing, exonerating, and quitting his claim against Samuel Bradley and agreeing to pay all costs. |
