Wallace, George Jr. vs William Houge

Description: This file contains three documents, a complaint, a bond, and an account, related to the suit George Wallace Jr. brought against William Hogue for failure to pay a bond of $57.03 on January 30, 1809. General Washington Johnston, attorney for George Wallace Jr. signed the complaint for $114.06 in damages. The bond was signed by the defendant William Hogue and witnessed by Parmenas Beckes. The account lists the purchases of many items, including Hyron tea, Crowley steel, tea, whiskey, coffee, a glass pitcher, a plate, 4 tumblers, a canoe, a meat trough, and 15 cords of wood. In the Minute Book of the Court of Common Pleas, page 326, for the March 1810 term, it was noted that the plaintiff appeared by his attorney General Washington Johnston and the defendant by John Johnson. It was ruled that the defendant could discharge his debt of $114.06 by paying the plaintiff $57.03 plus interest from January 30, 1810 along with costs and charges.
