This file contains four documents related to the suit Edward Porter brought against James Bass. Porters attorney, John Johnson, complains that James Bass was indebted to Porter for $15 for a horse Porter sold to Bass. The complaint is only dated 1809. On the verso of the complaint is a note that the jury found for the defendant and was signed by jury foreman Thomas Byrne. The summons called for Nathaniel Adams and Etheldred Bass to give evidence on behalf of the plaintiff, Edward Porter. The summons was witnessed and signed by court clerk Robert Buntin on June 11, 1809. The verso of the summons notes that it was executed by deputy sheriff John McCandless at a cost of $2.04. The defendant Bass appealed the judgement of Judge Daniel McClure. There is a court transcript signed by Daniel McClure awarding $15 to the plaintiff, Edward Porter. |
