Description: |
The file contains the petition of several citizens protesting the option of building the new court house on the out skirts of town. John Rice Jones and Robert Buntin were appointed to find two lots to build the new court house. On July 8, 1807 a petition was presented to the Court, stating that the lots chosen were at the extremity of the Village. The petitioners believed the proposed location would be of great inconvenience, especially for the Court and Bar at the the outskirts or end of the Village. It reported that it would pose difficulty in obtaining by-standers to make up a panel or procuring a witness or juror. The petitioners requested 4 or 5 persons be chosen to find a more central and convenient location. The petitioners bond themselves to pay into the County Treasury for the countys use. Petitioners: Henry Hurst $20; Parmenas Beckes $20; J.D. Hay $10; Peter Jones $20; `General W. Johnston Ten; Geo(George) Wallace $20; E.
