Petition to vacate road in Knox County

Description: The file contains a petition to vacate an existing road in Knox County. The road now established by a petition from inhabitants of Palmyra Township beginning at the end of the street in Vincennes by Governor Harrisons land and going by the Middle Sugar Loaf to Ephraim Jordans Mill is a great grievance and will be an insupportable burden to your petitioners. Seeing that they have already completed their part of a causeway over the pond (or so far as the same was directed to be done) and that the said causeway (called the road leading to the Forks of White River) is yet a public road which we are ready and willing to maintain. We humbly pray that your worships will vacate the first road going by the Middle of Sugar Loaf. Signed: Antoine Marchal, R Buntin, G.W. Johnston, H. Hurst, Wm. H. Tunnica (?), Thos. Jones Jr., Will. McIntosh, Peter Jones, Thos. Jones, Jon. Oneille. According to the Minute Book of the Knox County Court of Common Pleas 1807-1810 page 248, the petition was read and it was ordered tat John Hadden, Benjamin Price, James Black John Hogg, and John Ockletree were appointed as views of the road and they were to report their findings at the next Term.
