Stockwell Company in 1842 listed the following: 4 kegs of Nails $26.00; 4 kegs of Nails $26.00; Evansville Bank for Accepted Bill returned Protest $105.96; Cash paid Protest and Postage $.80; Commission for advancing to take up Bill $106.765 @ 2 1/2% = $2.61; Interest on Bill from 25th of January 1843 to 1st June 1844 (16 months and 5 days) $8.51 Total Amount $170.00. Contrary Credits By 62 pounds feathers $12.40, Due J.M. Stockwell and Company $153.60; Error $.45; Total Amount $157.15 This account was verified in a deposition by George Lyon sworn before Joseph Wheeler, J.P. Vanderburg County on May 9, 1844.The second doucment included in the file was a Promissory Note written by Littleton Tims on October 22, 1842. The note promised to pay in ninety days after date to the order of John Douglas, cashier at the Vincennes Branch of the State Bank of Indiana to the the a/c of J.M. Stockwell and Company. The paperwork was filed by W.R. McCord , Clerk May 14, 1844. |
