United States vs Josiah Carrico

Description: The file contains an indictment and numerous summons for the case of the United States vs Josiah Carrico. Carrico was indicted for stealing a hog from William Carruthers. Josiah Carrico was indicted for stealing a hog worth twenty dollars from William Carruthers. The indictment was written by John Rice Jones, Atty. Genl. and the jury foreman was Ephrahim Jordan. A summons was written for Carrico to appear in the May Term 1804 by Robert Buntin, Clerk, and witnessed by James Johnson. It was executed by William Prince. Margaret Degan and Thomas Anderson were summoned to appear in the August Term 1804 to testify on Carricos behalf. James Johnson witnessed the summons that was written by Robert Buntin and executed by William Prince. Margaret Degan and Thomas Anderson were again summoned to appear at the November Term 1804 and the February Term 1805. This time Daniel Sullivan executed the summons. Anthony Degan and James Neal were issued summons, written by Robert Buntin, and witnessed by George Leech to appear in the February Term 1805. Daniel Sullivan executed these summons. On November 10, 1804 summonses for William Prince, William Carrathures, and James Neal were issued to appear at the February Term 1805 to testify for the United States. The summonses were witnessed by George Leech and written by Robert Buntin. On the back of the Indictment: Case to May Term 1806, May 1806 continued to August 1806. Continued to November Term 1806. The Defendant found not guilty of indictment, John Harbin, foreman. General Washington Johnston was the attorney for the Defendant.
