"The Gallant Fourteenth" newspaper article, 14th Indiana Volunteer Regiment, 1861-1865

Description: A newspaper article and photograph of the men of the 14th Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment. The 14th Indiana served in many major battles of the Civil War including; Antietam, Fredericksburg, Spottsylvania and Chancellorsville. Many men were recruited in Vigo County and mustered at Camp Vigo in Terre Haute, Indiana. The picture is believed to have been taken around 1900. The surviving soldiers from the 14th are pictured on the Vigo County Court House steps. All are wearing suits and most have hats on. One man in the front row appears to be missing a leg.
