Sullivan High School 1960 minstrel show, Sullivan, Indiana

Description: This photograph shows a newspaper clipping concerning the 11th annual minstrel show at Sullivan High School in Sullivan, Indiana. Clipping reads, The St. Patricks Day Variety Show presented as the 11th annual minstrel by the music department of Sullivan High School proved once again what a group of young men and women can do with proper script and the right kind of supervision. It was colorful and entertaining. The public often forgets the amount of preparation it takes to present a performance like the minstrel show where so many people are involved. There were close to 200 directly connected with the show. That doesnt count the many who assisted or indirectly helped with the successful staging. It takes masterful planning to put a show like this into operation. There are such behind-the-scene things like tickets, stage and spot lighting, costumes, decorating, ushers, rehearsals and many other things. Someone has to steer these operations in addition to the big show out front. Harry C. Jarrett, vocal instructor, master minds the whole show, but hell quickly tell you that its the others who get the job done. But we like to think of Mr. Jarrett as the one fellow who stands out a little bit higher than the rest. He might be called the commandant of the performance. The Sullivan community is proud of the music department. The show could be summed up as worthwhile, wholesome and enjoyable.
