BannonPhysicianTerre Haute, IndianaThrough his leadership and professionalism, Dr. William Bannon has receivednumerous honors for the significant contributions to improving the mental and physicalhealth of people in the Wabash Valley.He has twice been honored by Indiana governors for his devotion to the artand science of healing, and for his community volunteerism. The Indiana StateMental Health Association honored him as Physician of the Year. Bannon receivedthe Terre Award, the highest honor presented by the Terre Haute community forvolunteer service, and he is the recipient of the Chapman S. Root Award presentedby Hospice of the Wabash Valley.Bannon graduated from the Indiana University School of Medicine. He servedas a member of the Indiana University Board of Trustees, and as a director of theIndiana University Foundation. Bannon has served as chairman of several IndianaState Medical Association commissions, and as clinicial professor of medicine at theIndiana University Center for Medical Education.He has been a board member of the United Fund, Terre Haute Chamber ofCommerce, Hamilton Center and Citizens Bank of Western Indiana. The Rose-Hulmancommunity is fortunate to benefit from Bannons devotion and medical expertise asa result of his work as a member of the campus health center staff.Doctor of EngineeringRonald W. DollensPresident and Chief Executive OfficerGuidant CorporationIndianapolis, IndianaRonald Dollens has led the Guidant Corporation to a position as one of theworlds leaders in the design and development of medical devices for heart andartery-related disorders. Prior to the formation of Guidant, he served as president ofEli Lilly and Companys Medical Devices and Diagnostics Division. He has alsoserved as president of Advanced Cardiovascular Systems.Guidant is a $1 billion company with nearly 5,000 employees, headquarteredin Indianapolis.In addition to his corporate responsibilities, Dollens finds time to be an activevolunteer for many civic and professional organizations. He serves on the boards ofthe St. Vincent Hospital Foundation, Beckman Coulter Corp., the Eiteljorg Museum,the Health Industry Manufacturers Association, the Indiana State Symphony Societyand he is president of the Indiana Health Industry Forum.Dollens, a native of Danville, Indiana, received a Bachelor of Science degreein pharmacy from Purdue University and a Master of Business Administration degreein marketing from Indiana University.Doctor of ScienceMarylin T. LeinenbachMathematics TeacherChauncey Rose Middle SchoolTerre Haute, IndianaMarylin Leinenbach has received national recognition for her innovative, handsonteaching approach that has increased middle school students interest inmathematics. Last year, Leinenbach was presented with the prestigious AmericanTeacher Award in mathematics by the Disney Company. She has been a finalist forthe Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching. In 1996,Leinenbach was presented with the Outstanding Teacher Award from Rose-HulmanInstitute of Technology. She has also received the Excellence in Teaching Awardfrom the Vigo County Education Foundation and the Golden Apple Award for hercontributions to teaching.Leinenbach has been a featured speaker at education conferences sponsoredby the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the Association of TeacherEducators and the National Middle School Association. She is the co-author of articlespublished in the Middle School Journal, In Focus and Contemporary Education.Now in her 25th year of teaching, Leinenbach received her Bachelor of Artsdegree in mathematics from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.Doctor of EngineeringGlen RaquePresident and Chief Executive OfficerRaque Food SystemsLouisville, KentuckyGlen Raque is the founder of a company that is a leader in the manufacture offood packaging and preparation equipment that serves a worldwide market. RaqueFood Systems, Inc. , was created 24 years ago and now has offices in Australia,England, Germany, Japan, Taiwan and the United States. Raque earned a Bachelorof Science degree from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in 1969. He has beenawarded 34 patents including 10 foreign patents for various mechanisms used in thepackaging industry.Rose-Hulman honored Raque in 1984 by presenting him with a DistinguishedYoung Alumnus Award which is awarded for exceptional career achievements. He isalso a member of the Rose-Hulman National Board of Advisors. Raque served as amember of the Computers in Undergraduate Education Task Force of the Commissionon the Future of Rose-Hulman. Raque has been honored by the Boy Scouts of. America for his volunteer leadership to help youth in his hometown of Louisville.He also serves as a member of the Board of Advisors of St. Xavier High School inLouisville.Joining Raque on the commencement stage during todays ceremony will behis son, Robert, who will receive a Bachelor of Science degree in computer engineering.Doctor of EngineeringThomas TarzianChairman and PresidentSarkes Tarzian, IncorporatedBloomington, IndianaThomas Tarzian is the head of a pioneering company in the broadcastingindustry. Sarkes Tarzian, Incorporated operates radio and television stations in Indiana,Tennessee and Nevada. The company was among the nations first commercialtelevision and FM radio broadcasters. It was also among the first designers andmanufacturers of television broadcast equipment and tuners for television receivers.Tarzian graduated from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in 1968 earning aBachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering.He began his career as a semiconductor development engineer at SarkesTarzian in Bloomington, Indiana, immediately after graduation. Tarzian becamepublisher of the Bloomington Courier-Tribune. He later returned to Sarkes Tarzianto serve as vice president for four years.He was named vice chairman and president of the company in 1976. Tarzianhas served as chairman and president of the business since 1987. He is a member ofthe Board of Directors of the American Spectator Educational Foundation.Doctor of Engineering] ames F. VanceChief Executive OfficerJFV AssociatesSpencer, IndianaJames Vance is an entrepreneur who has used his engineering expertise tocreate companies involved in the development and manufacture of medical products.He founded three companies which manufacture urological specialty devices.Vances early career included an eight-year period as manager of quality controlfor Alcoa. In 1960, he became program manager for the Minuteman II project forRCA, and later joined National Semi-conductor Corporation as product reliabilitymanager. His first venture into the medical products industry was as general managerfor American Latex Corporation. In 1977, he founded his first company, VanceProducts. Two other companies, Van-Tech, Inc. and Medical Polymers Inc. werecreated between 1981 and 1988. In 1988, CCA, a medical clinic in Arizona, wasformed.Vance earned the Bachelor of Science degree from the University of MissouriRolla,and the masters in applied and mathematical statistics and quality control fromRutgers University. The University of Missouri-Rolla honored him in 1994 as anoutstanding entrepreneur. He has been a member of the board of directors of theSpencer-Owen County Association for Retarded Citizens, and the Spencer OwenHousing Opportunities; and president of the Spencer Owen County EconomicDevelopment Corporation and the countys Chamber of Commerce.Fifty-Year Commemorative DegreesFor one hundred and twenty-five years, Rose-Hulman alumni have been makingpositivecontributions to society as engineers and scientists. Success has not beenlimited to their career areas. They serve their local communities through civicorganizations,youth activities and churches.Much of the recognition Rose-Hulman enjoys today is because of our alumni.Rose-Hulman graduates make an impact.
