This is a color photograph of the Solomon Allen house in the NW quarter of Section 33 in Reserve Township in Parke County, Indiana. It is a two story wood-frame house with a porch running the length of the first floor. A story tells that Solomon killed a bear at the back door on this house. Solomon (1796-1891) was the son of Jackson and Sarah Bond Allen. He married in 1818 Amy Moody (1794-1871) and secondly Peggy Lewis (1816-1890) in 1873. He came to Parke County in 1826 and settled in Reserve Township. A Quaker he was a member of Bloomingdale Friends meeting where he held the office of Elder and Exhorter. He is buried in Coloma Cemetery. This item was donated by Charles Davis. |
