Description: This is a color photograph of the Joseph Burns house on Jefferson Street in Montezuma, Parke County, Indiana. The two-story wood frame house has a partial wraparound porch, two chimneys and a gable roof over the upper level porch. Joseph Burns (1822-1903) came to Parke County in 1828 with his parents, James and Mary Wolfe Morgan Burns. He attended the Dazney School in the 1820s. In 1851 he purchased what became known as Burns Ferry in Montezuma and operated it during the Wabash and Erie Canal days, closing it in 1892. He was the owner of the Montezuma Fire Brick Manufacturing, maker of fire and fire clay bricks. This item was donated by Charles Davis.
