Description: Box 149Folder 7819 in Box 149 of Knox County Circuit Court records at the Knox County Public Library’s McGrady-Brockman House contains three documents in the case of State of Indiana vs. Andrew Gordon, 1856. This case is a continuation of the case in folder 7780 in Box 148, State of Indiana vs. Andrew Gordon, Albert Gordon, and Robert Hubs, men of color charged with assault & battery with intent to kill Isaac Griffin. In the previous folder (7780) the jury verdict did not identify which of the three defendants the penalty referred to. The documents in this folder consist of a true bill listing all three defendants, the arrest warrant naming only Andrew Gordon with a note on the back stating “the defendant not found in my bailiwick, Sept. 8, 1856”, and the jury verdict finding Andrew Gordon guilty of assault & battery with a fine of forty dollars and imprisonment in jail for 24 hours.
