Knox County court record for Wise vs. Ember and Booker, 1850

Description: Folder 6699 in Box 124 of Knox County Circuit Court records at the Knox County Public Library’s McGrady-Brockman House contains two documents in the case of William J. Wise and John S. Wise vs. Ross and William Ember and William and Lucretia Booker, 1850. One document in this file which is somewhat legible refers to a previous suit by the Wise brothers who won the debt litigation against Anderson Ember, a man of color. Ember died before the debt was paid so the Wises demanded the court seek payment from Ember’s heirs who were Wm. and Lucretia Booker and Ross and William Ember, people of color who were currently living on the Ember property. This property had not yet been seized by the court and that was what Wise was asking the court to do. The other document is difficult to decipher and there is no other information regarding this case in the folder.
