Knox County court record for State of Indiana vs. Francis Jackson, 1830

Description: Folder 3829 in Box 70 of Knox County Circuit Court records at the Knox County Public Library’s McGrady-Brockman House contains four documents in the case of State of Indiana vs. Francis Jackson. On September 14, 1830 an indictment was filed by the grand jury of Knox County Circuit Court charging Francis Jackson, a man of color for keeping a gaming table and making money, contrary to the law. A subpoena was issued, Jackson was apprehended and paid a recognizance bond of fifty dollars to insure his appearance in the circuit court on the first Monday in March, 1831. Documents in the folder include the indictment, subpoena, recognizance bond and finding of the jury as “not guilty.”
