Knox County court record for Lasselle vs. Vulcan, 1822

Description: Folder 3009 in Box 54 of Knox County Circuit Court records at the Knox County Public Library’s McGrady-Brockman House contains six documents in the case of Lassalle (Laselle, Lasalle) vs. Charles Vulcan, 1822. This case may be tied to Lassalle vs. Vulcan found in folder 2968 in Box 53. In this case, Lassalle is suing Charles Vulcan, a man of color, (once an indentured servant to him) for money he said was owed him by Vulcan for service and boarding of horses. Lassalle said the money owed him was $322.00. Documents consist of a summons for Vulcan requiring a bond of $322.00, statement of bond payment by Martin Riley, court filing & statements from Lassalle, statement from Moses Tabbs, attorney for Vulcan, and a summons listing four people to testify for Lasselle. The response by Vulcan through Tabbs suggests that Vulcan did pay Lasalle and further, that Lasalle is indebted to Vulcan for service rendered by himself and his wife, Betsy.
