On February 17, Miss Tinling, who was here in the interests of the W. C. T. C, lectured in a veryinteresting way on the physiological effects ofintoxicants of all sorts. Miss Tinling has amanner all her own and all were anxious tohear her. On February 25, Mr. Baxter wasunable to fulfill his appointment and Mr. Bacon addressed the joint meeting of both societies. Mr. Bacon always has an interestedaudience and this afternoon proved no exception. He spoke of Bible characters that wereespecially interesting.Mrs. AVisely talked to the girls on March 4.Her talk was very much appreciated. The society is very grateful to the different numbersof the faculty and their wives for their kindlyinterest and help.A missionary7 conference was held at theCollege of Missions in Irvington, February 28to March 1. The delegates from this societywere Misses Gladys Rippetoe and Zell Bell. They report a very helpful and interestingtime. Friday evening they heard an addressby Dr. Cory on The Congo Free State. Saturday morning they listened to what was probably the most interesting talk of all by7 MissMelcher of Chicago University on TheAVomen of India. Another good talk wasgiven by a Japanese, who had only been in theUnited States six months. A banquet wasgiven Saturday night. Many interesting talkswere given by returned missionaries and thosewho are preparing to go. AA^e feel that theinspiration the girls received there will be ofgreat benefit to the society. The girls are planning to make the spring term the most profitable term this year, and hope to make the association a source of interest and benefit to allthe girls of the school.Y. M. C. A.The usual A. M. C. A. spirit seems to existamong the young men of the school, althoughthe attendance has slightly7 decreased on account of the heavy work at the close of theterm. Helpful talks have been made by themembers of the faculty at the weekly meetings. Two delegates, Messrs. Hemmer and Stork, were sent to the State Conference of Missionsat Indianapolis, and interesting reports weregiven by7 these men at our last meeting, inwhich they7 gave the members an idea of thework done by the mission school at Indianapolis, as well as telling many interestingthings concerning conditions in foreign landsthat had been told them by7 missionaries whohad recently returned. The members of the Y. M. and Y. W. C. A.cabinets were royally entertained by Mr. andMrs. Wisely at their home on Xorth Tenthstreet on the evening of February 27.We are now making preparations for thespring term. This is especially the time ofyear at which the men of the Y. M. C. A. canbe of service to others in a very practical way,and we may rest assured that the associationwill boom during the spring term if we willonly fall in line and work among the new students. Let each of us prepare to do his part ofthis practical work.
