THE NORMAL ADVANCE161§♦ JIL anb & »♦ C a.r. i/. c. 4.1^ URING the preceding month the attend-
■ ance at the Tuesday afternoon meetings
of the Young Mens Christian Association has
been larger than ever before. Enthusiasm has
been greater and the work of the association as
a whole bids fair to get a new and better grip
on the men of the school, even in face of the
fact that it has always had a grip on the boys
at I. S. N.The Bible Class meeting at the Centenary
church at 2:30 P. M. on Sundays is a success.
Professor Sandisons lectures on Hebrew life
and history as it is found portrayed in the
sacred book is attracting the attention of many
students. The attendance at this class is weekly
increasing, and there is always room for one
more. Come on boys, and get a better under¬
standing of the spiritual force which has done
most to move the western world in which we
liye^On Tuesday afternoon, February 24, the Y.
M. and Y. W. met together to see slides of
famous pictures of the madonna. All who
attended came away with a new respect for
both art and religion.Great plans are on foot for a good organi¬
zation for the spring term. The Y. M. C. A.
expects to fulfill its mission as a true servant
of both the physical and spiritual needs of
young men.Y. W. C. A.The Y. W. C. A. meetings this month have
been more interesting than ever.As we are nearing the end of the term stillmost of our girls rally about our standard and
are loyal to their Y. W. duties.Sometime ago the cabinet met and selected
the Secretary of the Y. M. Cabinet to speak
to our girls. His talk Inaction is Death, was certainly
very appropriate. Each of us could easily
identify herself in one class or the other into
which he divided the student body. Some of us belong to the class that spend all
the time laboring over our studies. We
scarcely have time to give our fellow students
a smile and a pleasant word. Others belong
to the class that think only of social affairs and
a good time, paying very little attention to our
duties as students. Talking nothing but trivial
and nonsensical stuff. Never giving a helping
hand to any one. The third class, in which
every one of us should belong, are those who
have time to attend to their school work and
still always be ready and able to do things
for their fellow students and for our school. If
we are not in this last class of students we
should get busy and attain these desired at¬
tributes. We will not realize what it means to really
take part in social life and do our work faith¬
fully until we find ourselves in a position as
teacher in a school of some small town. There
we are expected to take an active part in af¬
fairs outside of school and if we are unable to
do this we are thought of as being undesirable.
I think this is worth thinking about.Through the kindness and courtesy of Mr.
McBeth and Mr. Schockel the Y. W. was shown
some reproductions of the paintings of the
famous madonnas. |
