The society has met each Saturday morning in room C I, at 8 oclock, at which timethe regular literary program has been taken up.The society is taking up the study of themodern drama. The program for Novemberhas consisted of the study of the dramatists,Bernard Shaw and Jerome K. Jerome, andtheir plays. They aremaking this year a record-breaker of any oneprevious. The high standards of good preparation, punctuality, school-spirit, and the artof good debating are not lofty ideals merely,but actual attainments of the society.Several new members have been taken intothe society and the line-up is as follows:Brinton, Carnahan, Ellis, Elder, Haney, Mc-Cullough, Pruitt, Thompson, Shaw, Smith andWilson.The Daedalians have accepted the challengeof the Ciceronians and preparations for a debate, to occur Feb. 1, are now being made.The resolution is that the several states-shouldreadjust their systems of taxation so as toexempt personal property and improvementson land. The Ciceronians will defend the negative side of the resolution and win back thehonors lost last year.The society lost one of its best membersNovember 11, when Mr. Brinton withdrew toaccept a position as teacher of mathematicsand physics in the Oakland City High School.Although absent, he is still interested in thework of his society. His friends wish him asuccessful and happy school year and hope tosee him back when his school closes in thespring.The Ciceronians are thankful. They arethankful for each of their members, for theirbrother and sister societies, for the grand oldschool with its worthy professors, for everything
they are thankful to be alive.DAEDALIAN.The Daedalian Literary and Debating Society has settled down to the years routine ofbusiness and hard work. Its active membership now numbers seventeen. Its Friday afternoon meetings are proving especially interesting and instructive, and are regularly attended. The old Daedalian spirit of hard workco-operation and good fellowship is making itself felt in this organization now as never before.The society has been pleased to have receiveda visit from two of its honorary members, Mr.Byers and Mr. Bass.FORUM.The Forum Literary Society, as usual, is todo some good stunts this year.
