Description: 142THE NORMAL ADVANCE.was by far the most delightful entertainment tendered the chapter this year. The guests were received in the hotel parlor, where a most agreeablesurprise in the presence of Miss Mary Moran, awaited them. Her coming had been kept a secretand the girls were not only greatly surprised, butalso delighted to welcome her back into the Alphacircle. Later the guests repaired to the ordinarywhere twenty-two were seated about a table beautiful in all of its appointments. In the center wasa large bowl of daffodils, which was both refreshing and attractive to the eye of an Alpha. Theseflowers, which certainly made the guests feel thatspring was at hand, proved to be the favors. Thecolor scheme was further carried out in the placecards, which were very artistic, being the work ofProf. Turman. The delicious five course menusuggested the spring season in color and substance,as well. Between the last two courses the guestswere asked to compose verses,—each line of whichwas to begin with a letter in the word Alpha. Agreat deal of poetic genius was displayed, especiallyon the part of the hostesses and guests of honor.Mrs. Curry, who is much concerned as to thefuture of the Alpha girls, offered some wholesomeadvice. This thoughtfulness on her part wasgreatly appreciated by the girls, who realized atonce what might be and who therefore resolved toturn over a new leaf. Those who were so fortunateas to participate in this pleasant affair, were theMisses Mary and Kate Moran, Layman, Keating,Head, Kitch, Kinkade, Eastham, White, Pearl,Berry, Herring, Hoffman, Townley, Weems, Skinner, Shryer, Bigelow and Jackson. On Saturday, April 11th, the Alphas had thepleasure of calling upon Miss Harriet Townley, anew member of the chapter. Miss Townley, withher mother and sisters, was observing the first of,two afternoons at home. The house was darkenedand lighted by candles. The library, which wasin white, was beautiful with its decorations of whitehyacinths, its silver candelabra and cut glasscandle-sticks holding white candles. Tea, sandwiches, and confections were served on a tea tablein the library. The next at home day will be Saturday, April 25th.HONORARY SECTION.The members of the Honorary Section of theleague were delightfully entertained by its fourthdivision, Saturday afternoon, March 28, 1903.The hostess, Miss Louise Peters, was assisted by Misses OMara, Nehf, Schmidt, Dawson. The afternoon was spent in progressive gamesand in guessing conundrums.
