Description: THE NORMAL ADVANCE89Lets play some pool, Old Guy.
Well, of course, I followed meekly,There was nothing else to do.
He was always rather bossy
Hed just ask and Id come thru.
Well, of course, I wouldnt beat him,I would just pull up and poke,
When our bill was bout two dollarsHe said, Dig up, Slim, Im broke.
Then I thought, 0 wicked woman,What wont you cause men to do?
Said the Hoosier, Loan me twenty. So once more did I come through.
Soon he said, Well, boy, Im goingBack to my work again, old scout,
Ill remember bout the twenty.Dont you ever bawl me out. When hed gone, I sat and pondered,But for my life I couldnt see
Why he wouldnt cut the ladiesAnd be a bachelor just like me.
Not for three weeks did I see himFor Id not been in his town

When I met him I smelled trouble,For his face it wore a frown.
So I said, Well, whats the trouble? Then, ye Gods, but he did swear,
Pounded, kicked and cursed and thundered,Bit his lip and tore his hair.IISoon as he had done with stormingHands to me a letter small,
Says, Take this yourself and read it,Read it, d you, read it all.Well, of course, I read the letter,Read it all, sir, thru and thru.
It was from the Hoosier school marm,What she said Ill tell to you.
It was bout the Xmas presentThat Id seen him send to her.
Soon my body shook with laughter,Tears caused both my eyes to blur.
For she told him how she loved him,Always had and always would,
But she wished him to explain the use ofHis Xmas present if he could.
Said, of course, she appreciatedAnything that came so far,
But for her life she couldnt savvyWhat the present could be for.
Now it seems that when he purchased,Too much haste had that boy shown,
For hed sized up the package,Sent it to her all unknown.
For when she received the gracious giftWhich hed sent her from the Falls
She, on opening found within itFifteen odd-sized Red Rubber Balls.True happiness is to no spot confined

If you preserve a firm and constant mind,
Tis here, tis everywhere.—Wynne.
