Description: 10THE NORMAL ADVANCEjTacultp Ctjange*DE. HYDE.Each school year brings with it several
changes in the personnel of our Faculty. One
of the changes for this year was occasioned by
the return of Dr. Hyde, who has been on a
two years leave of absence. During this time
he has been in Columbia University, receiving
the degree of Doctor of Philosophy there in
June, 1913. He returns to us as assistant pro¬
fessor of Biology, and we cannot but believe
that under his instruction the work of the de¬
partment will increase in interest and in the
standard of work done. We bid you welcome
to our school again, doctor.MISS ANNA COX.Another change of interest to the student
body is that in the English Department made
necessary by the leave of absence of Mr. Miller,
who has taken up work in Columbia Univer¬
sity. Miss Anna Cox has been chosen to fill
this vacancy and comes well fitted for the posi¬
tion. She graduated from the College Course
at the end of the Winter term of 1913, and did
some teaching in Normal during the spring fol¬
lowing. With her as assistant teacher in Eng¬
lish we believe that the high standard of work
done in that department will in nowise be
lowered.PROP. SCH0CKEL.We are always glad to welcome into our
midst a new professor. At this time do we
give to one who has just entered our ranks a
hearty welcome. The vacancy caused by the
resignation of Dr. Dryer has been filled by
Prof. Shockel. Some of us still remember Mr.
Schockel as a student in the Normal School.
He graduated from I. S. N. in the Spring of
1909. The following year he entered Chicago
University, pursuing studies leading up to the
degree of Doctor of Philosophy. While in the
university he spent some time in teaching.
With such recommendation he conies to us as
head of the Department of Geography and
Geology.MR. ROLL.During Mr. Kemps leave of absence, Prof.
Lynch assumes the position of head of the
Department of American History. This caused
a vacancy in the assistants position. Mr. Roll
is now Acting Assistant Professor of History.
Mr. Roll comes from Pimento, Ind. He grad¬
uated from Indiana State Normal School in
1906. He then worked in the Columbus High
Schools as instructor in History. Received his
A. M. degree in Wisconsin University in 1912,
continuing his work as graduate student dur¬
ing 1912-13. At the opening of the summer
term he began his work in I. S. N. S. as Acting
Assistant Professor. With all the others, we
welcome him into our midst.NO LIFECan be pure in its purpose and strong in itsstrife,
