Correspondence, State of Indiana vs. Clarence Kale, 1942

Description: The South Bend Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People presents 3 letters to the national organization concerning the basic facts of the 1942 case State of Indiana vs. Clarence Kale. The case was brought under the criminal section of the Indiana civil rights law. Kale was the manager of Hook Drug Stores, where two women were denied service at the lunch counter. After a conviction in 1941, this first appeal ended in a mistrial.
