Description: |
On February 27, 2000, four black Notre Dame students were arrested by two off-duty Roseland police officers at the Dennys restaurant in Roseland. The students contended that the arrests were racially motivated and the incident was nationally reported. One officer used pepper spray while handcuffing one woman, while a third student was slammed against a trunk and bloodied. Lt. Robert Herron was a witness to the incident and confirmed the video tape evidence that demonstrated that the students had done nothing to warrant their rough handling by the officers. St. Joseph County Prosecutor Christopher Toth thanked Herron for his testimony and willingness to step forward to clarify this potentially divisive incident. Christopher A.
