Racial incident police report, July 4, 1967

Description:	Photocopy of a police report detailing an incident outside an unnamed youth center at 1231 West Washington. An officer received complaints from citizens in the area who said there were youths fighting and causing trouble in the streets after a dance let out at the center. The officer said that some of the youths threw rocks and bottles at him. Though some additional officers were called and the center announced that dogs [sic] were coming, the incident does not appear to have escalated much beyond that. However, the report says that center leaders were notified and felt they could handle the trouble with out the police being called in, and the author of the report felt that, None of the adults in the area can understand why we the police let the youths run over us and not take more action than we do. About three weeks later, riots would erupt over Washington and Western streets.
