Riverside Park and Shelter House, Indianapolis, Indiana, circa 1915

Description: Completed in 1904, the Spanish Mission style Riverside Park Shelter House was designed by Park Superintendent J. Clyde Power. The basement contained mens and womens golf locker rooms and a bicycle storage room, the first floor was an open dining and picnic room with a refreshment stand, the second floor contained an assembly room, and the roof featured four observation towers with views of the park. The building was razed circa 1960.From an accordian style souvenir folder of 22 different postcards depicting landmarks, monuments, and scenery in and around Indianapolis, circa 1915. There is also a full page information card about the city. To view the individual postcards contained in the folder, see objects ia-0021-0804 through ia-0021-0804w.Note: while some of the postcards included in the folder were published as early as 1905, this package was published after the first running of the Indianapolis 500 mile race in May 1911 and includes a postcard of the track, thus dating this particular souvenir folder and postcards after that date.
