Description: |
Large house at the corner of East Washington Street and Bosart Avenue which operated as a roadhouse in the 1930s under the name Green Lantern. The house still stands and the exterior looks very much the same as in the postcard in 2019.An Indianapolis Star article from 1931 notes a raid at the barbeque establishment located at the Green Lantern where several men were arrested for operating a blind tiger (speakeasy) during Prohibition. Police found more than one-and-a-half gallons of whiskey on the premises but let the 19 patrons of the establish leave without arrest. Several similar arrests were made over the next several years, according to news articles. |
