Description: |
Originally built as several different apartment buildings, the Barton is a mix of architectural styles including Neo-Classical and Beaux Arts popular in the early twentieth Century. This view shows the faced facing Delaware Street and a large neon sign on the roof.Indianapolis developer Lynn Millikan began buying the properties in the 500 block of North Delaware in the 1910s and converting the property into a large hotel. By 1924, he had added a large building in the back, as well as the seven-story Barton Tower. Advertisements from the time boasted over 100 guest rooms with private baths catering to the traveling public. |
