Description: |
People stand near the lake in Holcomb Gardens. Although Holcomb Gardens opened in 1950, the lake was not completed until 1952. Sometimes referred to as a reflection pond, the body of water was a gift from J. I. Holcomb and was built in a natural ravine. According to the article Lake Grows on Campus in the September 18, 1952, issue of The Butler Collegian, Over 2 million gallons of well water will flow hourly over a nine feet high water fall in the center of the lake. A dam separates the tow [two] sections of the lake, which will reach a depth of 7 feet in some places (p. 1). |
