Description: |
A color photograph of the view looking east across College Avenue in Indianapolis, near 13th Street. The houses in the picture sit on what was the original campus location of Butler University when it opened for its first classes on November 1, 1855. At that time, the school was called North Western Christian University (renamed Butler University in 1877). After the University moved to Irvington in 1875, the buildings were torn down and a housing development was constructed on the land. Some of these houses were part of that development. |
