Description: |
The ribbon is being cut during the grand opening of the Butler Bookstore expansion and the addition of the campus Starbucks on September 3, 1999. Blue and white balloons decorate the space near the northern doorway to Atherton Union and Butler University President Geoffrey Bannister is holding the ribbon on the right side of the doorway. Behind him and a little to the right stands Levester Johnson, Vice President of Student Affairs (second from the right). Other people at the ceremony included representatives from Starbucks, Aramark Corporation, and Follett College Stores. Some of the funding for the construction project was provided by Follett, the operator of the Butler Bookstore, and Aramark, Butler Universitys food service vendor at the time of construction. To the left of the group, a person is taking photographs of the ceremony. When the coffee shop opened in 1999, it was the first full-retail Starbucks in Indianapolis. During the grand opening, prizes were given away including CD players, t-shirts, and mountain bikes. |
