Ribbon cutting ceremony for Starbucks and the expanded Butler Bookstore

Description: The ribbon has just been cut during the grand opening for the expanded bookstore and the addition of the campus Starbucks on September 3, 1999. Blue and white balloons decorate the space near the northern doorway to Atherton Union and Hink stands to the left of the assembled people. Included in the group of people are Butler University President Geoffrey Bannister (side to camera) and Levester Johnson, Vice President of Student Affairs (third from the right). Other people at the ceremony included representatives from Starbucks, Aramark Corporation, and Follett College Stores. Some of the funding for the construction project was provided by Follett, the operator of the Butler Bookstore, and Aramark, Butler Universitys food service vendor at the time of construction. When the coffee shop opened in 1999, it was the first full-retail Starbucks in Indianapolis. During the grand opening, prizes were given away including CD players, t-shirts, and mountain bikes.
