Edgewoodsfirst graduating class was invited tocelebrate the 50th anniversary ofEdgewood High School. Inaddition to the first graduatingclass, all past alumni were invitedto the celebration. Not only wasthe first principal Don Bennettpresent at the jubilee but so wasthe creator of the schools name.Sherry Carter, who was asophomore at the time, entered aname into a contest that woulddecide what the new schoolsname would be. Aside fromexplaining how the name waschosen, she also explained howshe chose the name Edgewood.When they were first talkingabout it this school was going tobe on the edge of the townshiplines and it was going to be closeto Flatwoods, Carter said.In addition to students returningfrom the past, a few students fromthe class of 2015 were also presentto help out. Kayla Albright, whowas there to help serve food anddirect people for National HonorSociety, expressed how attendingthe jubilee was a beneficialexperience.My favorite parts were when wegot to meet the very first principaland seeing everybody from thevery first class of Edgewood - thatwas pretty amazing, Albright said.I also thought it was really coolthinking that 50 years from nowthats going to be us.I ! 1asssaai
