Description: UNIFIEDTeam chemistry is an integral aspect ofevery sport: athletes must work togetherin a cohesive and organized way in orderto succeed. This philosophy has alwaysbeen a driving force behind Souths girlsbasketball team. While it is not alwayseasy to make these connections, theplayers have learned how tocommunicate and interact with eachother, on and off the court.Senior Marina Blackwell felt as ifthe new friendships formed with theunderclassmen were beneficial for notonly the older athletes, but the team as awhole. Blackwell said that having theseyounger players helps motivate the olderplayers to play better and forces them towork harder. The upperclassmen wanted theyounger members to succeed and havepositive memories about the team.Although the season was a positiveexperience, many people were limiteddue to an unprecedented amount ofinjuries sustained by multiple players.Eventually the injuries caused teammembers to perfect team unity. The basketball teamhad to work cohesivelyin order to find success.Senior Madison Grabowskistruggled with these restraints on herplaying time and felt as if theunderclassmen stepped up and becamevital members of the team. In thebeginning of the season, [theunderclassmen and the upperclassmen]didnt work well together Grabowskisaid, by the end, [all members]progressed and played well with oneanother. This is obviously somethingthat comes with the flow of the season;however, this cohesive group of playersfelt as if they excelled. As an underclassman, SophomoreSydney Leeper enjoyed the help andsupport from the older girls on the team.Leeper explained that theupperclassmen always made sure wewere giving 100% in weights, practice, and games, and they were extremelywelcoming to everyone into theprogram. That helped a lot in makingthe team play well. With the help of theleaders of the team, everyone was able toget together and make great and lastingfriendships.-TQRRAN BOMBABASKETBALLGAME FIGHTSMar. 1,2017Although quarrels betweenplayers arent generally allowedon the court, every once in awhile they do break out.
