Description: |
For three years, the BHSS cheerleading class of 2016 made some special memories, but nowthe memories are coming to an end in one final year. For most fans watching, basketball senior night is justlike any other game with the sweet sentiment of theplayers and cheerleaders walking across the courtwith their parents. For the athletes, it represents theirentire lifes work coming to a sentimental end walkingarm in arm with the people who got them hooked onthe very thing that drove their passion. This yearssenior night had a very emotional impact on theBloomington South cheerleading squad with sevengraduating members. The night was a reflection of a lifetime of cheer. It was a bittersweet moment for me, senior MorganStewart said. It made me realize how much timeand effort I had put into South cheerleading and howmany friendships I have made over the past fouryears. Many of the cheerleaders at South began asfreshmen, and while some started later, they alleventually ended the season and their careers as aclose knit group of friends.Senior night not only made an impact on theseniors but on the other team members as well.Junior Claire Walls felt that it brought backmemories of their older teammates helping herthroughout the years. They have always felt like bigsisters to me since day one, Walls said. From beingin seventh grade, looking up to them as eighthgraders to them helping us in high school theyvealways been there for us.Walls and her underclass teammates were sadto see the seniors come to the end of their cheercareer with senior night. The silver lining, however, was that they were able to show the departing squadmembers how much they appreciated the lessons andthe legacy that will be left behind._ -JACKSON MAHURONm |
