FESTIVITIES ON FOURTH STREETThis fall, many South students had the opportunity to displaytheir work at Bloomingtons Fourth Street Festival. The Fourth Street Festival is an annual event that allows local artiststo display and sell their artwork in the beautiful setting ofdowntown Bloomington. This year, several students displayed theirart at a South booth at the festival. Senior Emily Axsom and juniorLucas Beam, two of the showcased artists, both excel in their artclasses which include Advanced Photography and ComputerGraphics at South. It was a big opportunity for them to have theirwork showcased in this years festival. While it was not the first time Beam had displayed his artoutside of South, it was still a crazy experience to see his workdisplayed at a festival that his family has attended for years, and heconsidered this festival to be on a bigger scale than past showcasesof his work at the Waldron Arts Center. [Fourth Street Festival] isunique because it showcases a lot of the diversity that Bloomingtonhas, Beam said. It pulls art, music, food, and everything else fromall the different cultures here. Beam had many works to choosefrom, so he collaborated with his teacher to pick the piece thatwould be displayed at the festival. They discussed the designs thatwould be best suitable for the festival and eventually decided upon aBernie Sanders piece.Contrastingly, the Fourth Street Festival was Axsoms first timeshowcasing her work outside of South. Axsom relished theexperience because she work[s] really hard on [her] photography, and displaying it in a place where people of Bloomington could seeit was way more exciting than only South students viewing it.Axsom had worked on the piece that she had in the festival for manydays. Mrs. Staci Jennings, the photography teacher at South, noticedall the hard work she was putting into a specific portrait, and shethought that it would be cool to put it in the festival. Axsom lovesthe Fourth Street Festival because it allows all different artists toshow their work. Whether they are professionals or they just do itfor fun, she said, it gives them an opportunity to put their nameout there. - RILEY EURTON261 Community 13-5 MILLION PUERTO RICANS LOSE ELECTRICITY DUE TO A POWER PLANT FIRE 9/211 CHINA COMPLETES THE v |
